If you're a wilderness- or backcountry-based program working with adolescents or adults, you know the importance of caring for participants' physical health and wellbeing via first aid. But what about participants' mental health and wellbeing?
If you're a trip leader or staff person interacting directly with participants, especially in remote wilderness settings, you've likely noticed an uptick in mental health challenges showing up in the field. If you've felt stressed by this or underprepared to help support your participants and fellow staff when these challenges occur, this training is for you!
Whitney created the Wilderness Mental Health Management curriculum to support you and your staff in developing skills to help understand and discuss mental health challenges with participants; intervene effectively to manage and support in the case that challenges present in the field; and guide decisions around field-based care and evacuations.
Whitney has leveraged her wilderness and outdoor education experience, curriculum development expertise, and clinical mental health background to create a skills-based curriculum tailored to the unique challenges of wilderness contexts. In her workshops, she teaches evidence-based, wilderness-specific information and tangible strategies positioned to help programs and staff better support all participants and improve staff retention and expertise with better preparation, skills, and training for our industry's current challenges.
